Serbian Copywriter

Copywriting seems to have been a natural path for me to follow. I write a lot. I have two blogs: one is about language; the other, mostly about travel, although I touch on many other topics from ancient history to thoughts on the universe.

Officially, I was first hired as Serbian copywriter in 2012 by a global leader in mobile marketing, Athens-based Upstream. I spent three and a half months in their Athens office working on their Vip mobile campaign. The experience was a game changer for me: as I came to understand the creativity mechanics behind each of the messages, I was able to get a direct insight into what worked and what did not. This served as a solid base for me to build upon and, ultimately, to start calling myself a copywriter.

Year after year, I’ve landed more and more creative jobs in the spheres of transcreation, copy editing and, you guessed right – copywriting. I’ve taken courses in SEO and have applied these skills in managing several of my own websites.

Good copy is not just about being able to express yourself nicely – it is about making impact, it is about conversion, while keeping it simple, relevant, and a pleasure to read. It is also very much media dependent – will you be publishing an article in a newspaper, running print ads, creating a TV commercial, or designing a social media or brand-awareness campaign?

Closely related to copywriting, but not exactly the same thing, transcreation is about following the client’s brief in translating and adapting contents for readers of another language (in my case, Serbian). Through major US and UK marketing and advertising companies, I have worked on campaigns from several well-known global apparel brands, airlines, tech firms, facility management companies, and more.
